Ok, so got the head skimmed this morning, and the fella doing it pointed out to me that the (what ive been told is called) diesel block which is bolted onto the back left corner of the head with three bolts and has a fuel pipe connected to it, basically, where the pipe connects, someone has snapped it off and stuck it back together with some crazy plastic glue stuff... so does anyone know what this part is or where i can get one, looked on paddocks, couldnt find it, rang stealers, usless bunch of cowboys... ill have pics up of it later.. thanks

On the TD5 that is the fuel regulator. The later ones have an external fuel spill pipe where the early ones do not.
They are not cheap but make sure you get the correct gasket as they are easily confused between the two types.
I have a used early one if you need it as my replacement engine was the later 15p type.

sorry its a 2002 defender td5, heres some pics.

Bit irrelevant really as you've just shagged the cylinder head completely. You can't skim a TD5 head. LR are very clear if warped beyond their tolerances it's a new cylinder head..

doubt that now redhand, seeing as ive had it done by a company specalizing in diesel head skims...

Don't just take my word for it Google it. Try "Can I skim my td5 cylinder head"

here ya go from the LR manual

'Check cylinder head for warpage across centre and from corner to corner.
Max cylinder head warpage = 0.1mm (0.004 in).
CAUTION: Cylinder heads must not be refaced. Replace the head assembly if warping exceeds the limit.'

you can skim a td5 head regardless of what LR say i had mine done 12 months ago and no probs as yet

You sure about that? landrover skimed mine two years ago, they definitely charged me for it.

The reason they say you can't skim the heads is because they are specially hardened and it removes the hardend layer. I've had mine skimmed. I'd rather take the risk of skimming a head than fork out stoopid money for a new one.

I've had heads skimmed beyond recommended maximum-no issues unless you go stupid.
Also what have you got to loose v £1400 worth a go.

Did I mention LR also say brake modulators are un serviceable ?
