Hi - just want to share my experiences my new(old) Defender.
I bought a 98 300tdi 90 112,000 miles on clock last November.
The performance and brakes were both weak to say the least, and tyres old and persished, but otherwise a great vehicle, instantly in love!
So I did the following:
1) EGR blanking - modest but definite improvement in pick up, no big flat spots anymore, but not enough impvmnt to make longer journeys viable.
2) Set of Grabber AT2 s - much better grip all round
3) then put in a full size front mounted Allisport replacement intercooler + decat + fuelling tweak: now we are talking - big increase in power and torque, can accelerate now rather than ease up to a speed, even uphill in 4th and 5th, and can mix it in town for those all important short sprints to the merges etc. Much more authority when off roading and negotiating obstacles with the torque. This is the modification to do IMHO. And best of all fuel economy is the same or better - less throttle opening for given speed/performance and less gear changes.
4) new discs and pads all round from EBC - can also stop now, whereas before it was like a supertanker. Well worth it.
No, Im not going to track it or anything daft but just thought I wanted to give the old girl a new lease of life and make her safe to drive, and am very pleased with the results.
cheers
Adrian
