The rebuild starts here!

My 1964 2a, which I've owned for nearly 12 years, is looking a bit tired..!!!
It has a galvanised chassis, 2.5 petrol 90 engine, S3 gearbox, and an LPG conversion, so I reckon I've got a good base to start from.
I'm hoping to use it next year as our wedding car - we're finally tying the knot, after all we've only been living together since 1990

If I can do the magic and make pictures appear, this is it......

i think a lpg sytem is a very good thing on a landy ,some pics of it would be interesting

It's been so long I can't remember, it was last on the road 5 or 6 years ago.
I don't think it's ever been a mail vehicle, but you never know! There are a few more layers of paint under that red. The bulkhead is blue because that's the colour I was going to paint it, the garage that replaced the chassis did the bulkhead paint. It'll be blue when I'm finished this time too.
If I remember in my slightly hungover state tomorrow (I've been drinking Lomond Gold, I'm moving on to Hobgoblin!) I'll take some pics of the gas system, as I'll be clearing out the rubbish anyway. The plan is to spray lots of WD40 everywhere tomorrow, and actually start removing bits of bodywork on Sunday.
I'm raising some of the finances by clearing out the garage and ebaying - I've already sold my old Kawasaki and a few other bits & pieces - so I've some stuff for sale, such as a 2.25 rocker shaft, rocker cover, a 200 tdi rocker cover, 2.25 sump, Discovery alloys... if people are interested I might put them on here first.

Always good to start on a galv chassis. I would change fluids and see if she will start.
Give it a swift hosing down - inside and out so the Mrs doesn't get her frock dirty and you're good to go.

Don't rush the restoration though.....better to delay the wedding and have things right

First some pics of the gas system, for prs & anyone else who might be interested..
The (basic) tank in the loadspace..

The heater (if that's the correct term), which takes a warm water feed from the heater pipes...which on a 2a with a wee smiths heater in the passenger footwell, means I have no heating in the car itself!

..and this is the thingy that switches the supply from petrol to LPG, and vice versa

Back to the job in hand, yesterday I cleared out the rubbish, old parts etc....

...and took out the front headlining.....

....behind which was lurking an old wasps' nest...fortunately without the wasps!

A few more I took yesterday.... reckon the door tops need a bit of a scrub?

On to today... I've taken out the rear headlining, which involved drilling out a couple of bolts, which took about 5 minutes per bolt (they go through the rear of the roof from the outside, and hold the bar that secures the sides of the headlining). Then I removed all the roof fixing bolts - they all came out surprisingly easily, maybe because they were all galvanised. Except one, just behind the drivers door where the rain obviously gets in. So, another bolt to drill out. God only knows what they made them out of, but this one took about an hour to do, cooling the drill bit with WD40, using 4 different drills (always in search of better tools!). Finally, just when I thought the roof was ready to go, I found one little screw, with no head on it, through the windscreen frame into the roof. By this time it was starting to get dark, and I was starting to get hungry, so that's a job for next weekend!

Looking at the price of new bulkheads, Manchester might not be that far away!
Unless anyone knows where I can get either a new bulkhead at a reasonable price, or a good used one?

I know, my next door neighbour's got a Series 3, and has tried to buy that roof a few times! Mine came from my brother's S3 when it was scrapped (I bought it for bits!)

I got nothing done last week, as I'm working outside & the only time it stopped raining was when the hailstones started. I didn't get a lot done this week either, having other stuff to do, but I did get the bonnet & the other door off. I was going to attempt the wings & rad panel, but as just about every bolt is rusted to the point it will need drilled out Ive decided to soak it all in WD 40 til next weekend.
I also came across a wee problem. I slackened off the jubilee clips on the rad hoses, but on the bottom hose the screw came all the way out of the clip without it slackening. I'm going to have to figure out how to get the clip off without damaging the hose?
Oh yes, I got the front apron panel off, and the headlights out!
