    I have no interest in extending the oil interval. the factory interval is 6000miles, I have changed it at 6000miles for the last 400k miles, I am happy to change it every 6000miles. Going longer against the factory recommendation seems foolish to me.

    The viscous fan is actuated by the temperature of the radiator airflow - there is no "temp" it comes on at, as far as coolant temp goes - once the radiator air output is hot enough, the fan will lock. You need to get the coolant flowing first...
