One thing to add is that it only (so far) does it at slow speeds, no misfires or hesitation when going faster, it does hesitate a little if booting it but then it always has so I usually put it in sport mode and it boots down fine.

Just to close this out, I removed the cylinder head. The head gasket had lost its integrity and was allowing combustion pressure into the coolant. All fixed with a head clean up and a new gasket.

So, do you have any idea what on earth that gunk is?

Prep day to tackle the main harness tomorrow. That meant removing the front carpets, seat and cubby box. Turnes out you do NOT have to remove the heater unit, the harness passes well between the heat the bulkhead. Also, all connections to the...

HT leads/plugs are 2 years, coil packs as far as I know are AD 1997 :) I have had the old girl since 2010 and I haven't changed them prior to that my brother had it for 4 or 5 years and he certainly didn't change them. It does it either hot or...

Er, obvs!!! Hence my post about my mate who works for the BMA. She hasn't heard and that appears to be good news, so unless she can find out to the contrary she will be flying out tomoz. She can't get through to the admissions peeps, they must...

My favourite saying, start where it stopped. Check all connections and hoses around the MAFF and air intake are secure. Can you hear the pump when you first turn ignition on and do you of course have diesel in tank ?

That's the exact reason I'm looking at that unit! You can choose from around 4000 colours for the backlighting, so not only can I have green backlighting I can have the correct shade of green 😁

Good morning Datatek The trailer lights are behaving erratically on my P38. Only the left indicator is working correctly until you switch the main lights on then lights flashing half lit. Sockets and wiring are clean. The truck was converted to...

I don't have the buttons anyways, there's blanking plates where they normally go. I guess that was part of the installation of my current head unit. The unit I'm looking at currently is this one...

Those are very similar to the cam sensor on a Rover 75 2.5 which also get gunked up, we wipe them clean and most of the time work as per normal.

Try to rebuild it though, perhaps you can find a rebuild kit. Or possibly send it in for reconditioning, should be cheaper

another vote for Ashcroft here. It is a recon of your current rather than a replacement but their turn around time is about a week (quicker if you drop off and collect) so the vehicle is not off the road for long.

Ok thank you, I did see Beaumonts 4x4 also do them. I wondered if anyone has any experience with them?

The voltage dropped about 1.5V while cranking. My gut feel was it's a fuelling issue (given it would only attempt to fire while bumping at full throttle and high revs) so having worked through the easy/obvious stuff I pulled the pump out of...

Was talking to mate of mine yesterday who said why would I recommission my 4.2v8 over the much cheaper to run E class, I said look at the cost of repair on them and issues diesels can have over petrol, and in Land Rover world there is plenty of...

Hi everyone, First time posting but hoping you might be able to help? I have an 02 TD5 defender 90 which has been remapped and is in need of a new transfer box. I was wondering what peoples recommendations are for sourcing one? It currently has a...

I am looking to install a Traction Control Switch? I have a Nanocom so not worried about clearing the fault when it's turned on. Looking to tap into the ABS+TC Fuse. Can anyone provide a step-by-step safe setup for this and parts I would need?

For a newbie (like me when it comes to the FL2), finding where sensors are located is a challenge. This thread is about finding the cam sensors. The inlet cam sensor is toward the front of the car. The exhaust cam sensor is toward the rear...

Hmmm, if it only did it hot I would suspect a crank or cam sensor starting to go. It may still be. How old are the coil packs and HT leads?

RF interference (loads on here) or aftermarket stereo draining it - usually switched and permanent live mixed up. Or headlight wipers not parked properly.

Now that's a good point. MCB and RCDs would be the sensible option. No brainer when you stop and think about it. Surely they must have them?
  • Freddie17
No, a cam censor should not look like that! IIRC, and assuming the petrol is the same principle, back-probing the wires you should find a 12v supply, a signal and a ground. The signal should give around 5v. Your ‘odd’ readings are indicative of...
