Hi,
Could anyone advise where I can get a Zenith carb for my series 3. Preferably new if thats possible or a refurb would be OK.
Thanks,
Steve

dont buy a zenith copy, total rubbish, im sure craddocks had some genuine ones in, or so it said:rolleyes: i managed to get a old zenith, refaced it fitted all new jets ect ect, and then put the webber back on:D

Why did you put the Weber back on...

Thought the Zenith was supposed to perform better, albeit less fuel efficient.

If not, where can I get a Weber servicr kit?

the best and only place i know of to get a zenith carb is green brothers in littleborough in rochdale lancs it can be found on google those lads stock evrything imagineable for the old girls they got one for mine it was an original never used for £50 just pulled it off the shelf
if its an idling problem with the original carb youve got give the idle jet needle a tweak in either direction while its running if it struggles turn the screw back the other way while fettleing the revs on the cable thats how i used to sort mine and got it down to a fine art

the problem i had with with the zenith was, when your slowing down ie going around a corner, slowing down approaching an island ect, when you then started to put your foot down again it kept missing, cutting out, momentrally, thought it was a ignition fault changed everything, no differance, found a old webber carb my dad had in is shed from years ago, of his old landy, took it apart replaced all the bits in the service kit, put it on, no more problem, seems to be a bit better on fuel aswell:D, cant say i noticed it went and better or any worse with the webber fitted

the only problem ive found with the webber, is when the weather turns cold it tends to cut out a bit on tickover until the engine is fully warm, i believe its carburator icing, but i did get that with the zenith aswell but not quite as bad.

Thanks guys,
My landy ticks over smoothly when warm although the idle adjust screw is fully turned in to achieve this! When I accelerate up hill with any sort of load there is a severe power loss.

Some time ago I fitted a carb refurb kit (due to a stalling problem) cured the stalling but I have the power loss. I think it may be starved of fuel, especially as the idle screw is set at max to achieve tick over. Tried adjusting the jet screw but cant make it better. I wonder if the Weber refurb kit was the wrong one?

I have to sort it and read that the Zenith gives a bit more pulling power and thought it was an opportune time to make the move??

I found with me Zenith the old girl was sluggish and lacked any power at all, although this may have been down to the carb itself, and not being able to adjust it as the mixture screew had been snapped decided to go for a second hand webber and refurbish it, with this I found that I have a greater pull (4th gear up a steepish hill starting around 30mph and gaining rather than slowing) a marked improvement in overall fuel consumption only thing that lets it down is that it now runs on which I believe at the moment to be down to the timing.

if you are having all these problems i would say that it has the wrong refurb kit fitted, webber carbs are brilliant when set up properly, much better than the zenith.

sounds like yours is sucking air in through the intake manifold to me check yer gaskets and look for cracks as the most probable cause i had it with my old series 3 conked out on the m62 spent a solid hour making a temporary gasket out of cardboard for the carb just to get home

its a lot of ****ing about but i tested one off a lotus cortina by taking the manifold completely off then bolting a plate over evry hole and sealing it with silicont then drilled a 8mm dia hole in one plate then put a tyre valve through it pressurised it with a bike pump and dumped it in a drum of water to find bubbles after i sold the plates to a mechanic who said its a bloody good idea
regards john
