So after a tough green lane yesterday I was driving home (about 15 miles done) and the 110 suddenly yanked towards the passenger side with a scraping sound. As I pulled over the pulling stopped.

After a good crawl around underneath with a torch I couldn't see anything so drove the last mile or so home, with no handling problems but a slight grinding noise coming from that side.

What's the best process to follow to diagnose this problem?

Possibly a stone jamming the brake disk?

All those that voted wheel bearings were....

CORRECT

now gotta get the right replacement kit and find a way to get the race that's jammed on the stub off. Tried whacking it with big red and applying some gentle blowtorch blasting.

Grind it and be careful or get a large cold chisel and hit straight down on race in several places. this will expand the race on a shaft

Do the stub axle as well, by the time you have got the remains of the old bearing off you will have knackered it. If you fit a new bearing to a knackered stub axle you will be doing it again pretty soon.
