Hello,

I posted on here awhile back about how to treat rust but never got around to taking photos due to the weather and me being busy, well I went out today and managed to get some photos, and it has been worrying me all day, as the only rusty parts seem to be parts that look like they cant be replaced if worst comes to worst, I have also noticed leaking in the drivers side at the foot well and along the rubber bit where the door closes

Is this a serious issue that should be treated immediately, or am I good to wait until the weather clears up to spray it down with phosphoric acid, wire brush it, prime it with hammerite and spray it.

My main concerns are the tailgate locks and the jerry can stowage compartment locks, as those seem like they cant be replaced, and the headlight bit and door handle area also seems like a tricky one

This is what I have for treating the rust, not sure if it will do or not though

Many thanks in advance :D

Nothing to worry about there mate. As for water in the footwell, that's a no-cost included option on a Land Rover. ;)

Rust is all part of the 'patina' for old Land Rovers and you definitely have nothing to worry about. Just be glad you haven't got my 2nd row doors or your worry levels would prevent you sleeping:D For many of us here it is part of the charm!!

Ah fair enough :D Good to know though, was thinking of getting like a car shelter to put her under, but if its nothing to worry about, no point wasting money haha

that is nothing more than cosmetic. Its chassis and bulkhead that are important. Your foot wells look really good though and look as if they have had repairs in the past. put up some pics of your chassis and the underneath

My doors leak, water comes up between gaps in the floor pans, my windows leak but it doesnt matter as the water drains back out again.

its an old ex-mil landy, i wouldnt worry.

Keep asking though if you find bits your not sure about, until someone tells you you dont know.

basically with rust dont worry about it unless you can poke something through it

That vehicle is a worthless, rusty pile of sh-t. If it helps you out, i will give you £50 to take it off your hands.

If you're worried about it, pick up a can of ACF 50. It will neutralise the rust for 12 months so will stop it getting any worse until the weather picks up and you can spray it.

Ah right good good, I'll take some photos when I get home, the chasis and underneath has all been waxoyled though, so not sure it will help much taking photos :p

Ah yeah, that looks very worrying :p

I ordered some ACF-50 off ebay, heard fairly good things about it, so hopefully that will stop the progression for now, and I can treat it properly when the weather clears up, I know its not too severe, but I would rather treat it and keep it in the best condition I can now, and have more happy years with her in the future :p

If there's any motorcycle shops near to you, they normally stock it. Save you some postage if you need any in the future.

It doesn't, it remains as a thin, oily film. Don't worry about the rain, it won't wash it off (what you're applying it to though should preferably be dry when you spray/wipe it on).
