just started wiring up my series 3 truck cab with 200 tdi, just wanted to know wich wire is the field wire at the back of the alternator, as its different to the series alternator

let me put this another way, i am wiring up my truck cab after body off reatoration and 200tdi fitment, the only thing thats stumped me is the alternator wiring, the one on the disco engine has one large brown wire, i am ok with that, then one thin wire brown and yellow,ithink that is the field wire to the ignition light, then there is a white wire, does anybody know were this goes?
Looks like no one here has a clue but a google search found this:-

Not sure about the white wire - if it's connected to a terminal labelled "W" it'll be for a tacho.

thanks oxides, i didn.t think of that,might be right, ill have to give it a whirl without the white wire connected
