Hi all
Been trying to wire a switch into the starter relay circuit as a anti theft prevention. So I figured I could cut into the wire which feeds power from the crank position on the ignition barrel which goes to position 85 on the starter relay , so I wired a switch in as above. the switch has three terminals supply which comes from ignition barrel a load which I wired back down to position 85 on starter relay and an earth which I wired to a good earth I tested for continuity across the switch which weirdly didn't show that the switch was actually switching so I took the new switch off checked for switching still the same so I figured it might have summit to do with the earth once battery was connected . Put switch back on connected the battery turned her over she started but frazzled the wires to the switch ( plus it didn't matter if the switch was on or off) . Any help would be much appreciated . Also how do you figure out the correct wire sizes of the 300tdi wiring diagrams .

Why are you putting an illuminated switch so when someone breaks into then gets the ignition
on & bingo its lit up like a Christmas tree kind of defeats the purpose, also reading your post
you've wired in an earth to a live circuit hence why you've cooked it. (unless ive read it wrong) ??
All you want to do is break the circuit.
Take one side of the wire from the sensor/relay to your switch then back to the other part of the wire you've cut & hide the switch you don't need the 3 terminal switch as one of them will be the light.
:)

Illuminated but the switch is hidden. So I need to fit a two way switch and it will work or cud I still use the three way one and omit the earth ?

I do have to agree with Kev it sounds like it’s been wired straight to earth.

Check the switch terminals and operation with a multi meter
