Dear Members
The top setting on my wiper stalk on a defender 300TDi just stops the wipers
is this normal or should it be the second speed?

Thanks if anyone can help!

Simon

Should be two speed, problems with the stalk contacts common. I have also found that if the wiper system/spindle's are stiff the system will not run in high speed or only go about the same rate as slow even though switch is in high.

This is interesting I have a similar problem on my 200Tdi. Turned the widper on at speed 1, fine. Speed 2 same and speed 1??? Unfortunately my spindles are only a year old. Wonder if they can be lubed without stripping the bulkhead?

I have the same issue with mine and have had it for as long as I can remember. Had it when I had the td bulkhead setup and wiring, and have the same thing now I have a 300tdi and wiring setup. Intermitnat and low speed work. But fast just stops them wherever they are on the screen. Have stripped and lined the linckage and wheel boxes. Chased wiring around replaced park switches and have no given up and just don’t use he fastest speed. You get used to it after 10 years. But if you do find a cure please share it!

I have the same problem, though the system works nicely enough apart from the higher speed. So can you tell me what is involved in changing the stalk? or can you just clean the contacts?

Changing the stalk made no differance to the problem on mine. But it is easy enough to change. You remove the steering wheel, unscrew the plastic steering column surrounds and that will expose the colum switches and wiring. You then just unplug the wiring, either a black bullet block or white spade cone for block (depending on age) and remove the switch.

Thanks for that, I guess the best thing for me to do is strip and clean it first. See where that gets me.
