Ok as you might gather I'm on the electrics part of the rebuild and this should be the last issue.....

1988 csw with 200 tdi motor and now td5 wiper system (it came with the new bulkhead).

There is power to the fuse

Power from fuse to the stalk

The washer system works fine

But the other wires are constantly live - is this right or should they only go live when one of the settings on the stalk is activated?

Three lives arrive at the wiper motor at once!

I've put a new earth, which has been tested, on the motor

I think the switch is at fault?

Any thoughts

The later switch is different to the early switch. The early switch has 2 up positions (slow and fast wipe) and a flick down momentary position rather than intermittent.

The later switches have the same 2 up positions but they have a latched intermittent and use a delay realy (5 second delay I think) for the intermittent.

You should be able to adapt your switch by altering the wiring to suit. You'll need a copy of both wiring diagrams though. You may get away with just changing the wire positions at the park switch. You may have to start chopping and changing what the switch wires do instead.

I've left the old switch on but plugged it into the later motor.

I suppose the motor might have a fault and could be sending a live back to the stalk.

Role on Saturday.

Undid the block connector and tested the wires.

The solid green was live - as it should be

The green and red was also live - not right

The remainder were all zero reading - ok

But as I unscrewed the switch it fell to bits - better now than when I'm driving.

New switch on the way but the motor should not be making the green and red live - will need to test the motor against the original 200 tdi motor.

Anyone tried using a td5 motor with earlier type switch?
