wipe motor parks in vertical position

Hi, i;m a little confused and possibly stupid and about to have a nervous breakdown because,

after much arsing about i now have fitted a new wiper motor on my defender 96 300tdi. The wipers were wiping the right way before and sometimes parking correctly, but now with new motor they park vertical. The wheelboxes i have not touched so they cannot be upside down and motor is correct rh model, it parks with linkage in not out.

|Am i going mad or can i ajust where the motor parks by opening it up?

So are you saying park is incorrect-unclip wiper arms allow motor to park and refit.

Or are you saying it goes totally the wrong way?-if so the wires from motor push fit on the socket on motor-check they are same way as old ones

yes it wipes wrong way, if i fitted wipers at park point it would then wipe down to the bonnet

the connection to the motor only fits one way i thought, five pins

yes the plug only fits one way-correct.
but the wires onto socket are push fit

Failing that is the cog in correctly, possibly incorrect position

i did open up the motor and move the cog to 180 different but when it parked again it was in the same place, how does it know where to park in relation to where the cog is?
