Hello,

I'm thinking about more interesting ways to mount the exhaust system, rather than having the conventional pipe to the rear cross member. I've seen a few stacks coming out of the wings and side exit exhausts and what not, but how about a wing mounted exhaust? I'm thinking, cut through my down pipe (it's a 2.5 N/A we're talking about here) and then heavy duty / stainless steel flexi pipe to the wing, where I will mount a silencer and then a short pipe off to the side so that it points to the nearside, but doesn't over hang the wing. I will paint the whole thing in black BBQ paint and mount it with a bracket that I can make.

I'm thinking something like the following, but with a more compact silencer and a shorter tail pipe that directs the exhaust gasses straight off the wing if you get the idea:

What do you think? I just fancy something a little different. Would it effect engine performance with less back pressure?Pictures of what I'm planning on would be great (if any one else is mad enough to have tried it) or pictures of other 'unconventional' exhausts would be great!

Cheers

I'm going to design a system tonight. I've got a good idea as to what I'd do and how I'd achieve it. It's just a matter of whether or not I really want to do it!

Recon you should go for it if you got the skill and the tools to do the job right. I am gonna wuss out as i Know i will do a pikey job. would live to see the results, as i am sure others will to.
Post some designs. I did do a quick image serch, but found nowt. that s3 on ebay was nice btw.:p

Back pressure would not be an issue, your engine doesn't need any, it just wants rid of it, perfect setup would be exhaust manifold nothing else, likewise for the inlet manifold, no filter would be best!

A few considerations, stacks will get helluva hot, MOT tester will not be too impressed. If it's before the window and you drive along you will get exhaust fumes in the cab. You will need to fit a reasonably sizeable silencer to silence it enough, so you now impare your vision across the wing.

A friend of mine has a chrome exhaust running up the NS and a matching intake running up the OS, looks quite good, but it's an offroad toy, no silencer or anything.

:D it does rather !

straight from the manifold in 3" then a small cherry bomb type thing welded on the back, tis straight thru tho, its just a tin thing wrapped round the tail pipe, passes mot every time, noisy as **** :D:D
