Good to see that the Police are going to get heavy on window tints

If the front windscreen is illegal the Police will ensure you get a
trailer to a local garage to resolve - If its just the front windows promise
you drive to the garage to
"remedy" the issue with your front windows down - despite the weather

Despite all the anti-police rant / only an extra tax screaming from some
folks Its amazing the more the police are Zero tolerant about minor motoring
infringements the more serious crime is reduced

I was surprised that the "privacy" glass level of a MINI is the acceptable
legal level - Its hardly noticeable !!!!!
- all Chryslers Voyagers still being sold with the privacy glass extra in
the UK is legal and as
far as the independents who will do anything for the cash - will they start
telling folks about the legal limit or give people new windows for 'nowt

what exactly are the rules with window tinting. it used to be that you could
have 'privacy' glass, ie total black on the rear window and side windows as
far forward as the B pillars, but the front two side windows could only have
a very limited degree of tint (10%) & none on the windscreen. Is that still
the case or has it changed recently? taverymuch. Rich M

I was told by HMC&E at Holyhead a short while ago that it was 30% to any
windows (except front, I believe)

The web's a wonderful thing. Here's the DFT's guidance:

Now, if you can work out what it means you'll have your answer :)

Certainly to the B posts its not a problem. Theres no legal requireemtn to
be able to see through the rear window of a car, as there's no legal
requirement to have a rear window on a car / van / vehicle. Same with rear
side windows, my Corsa which is used for business is a two door with rear
windows and rear side windows panelled in metal with advertising on them,
as provided by Vauxhall. Front windows and screen there are very definitely
limits to the tinting allowed, I didnt think it was a percentage of tint,
more a percentage of level of light allowed to pass through.
