Brakes failed this morning (totally) luckily as I was setting off , leaking wheel cylinder has emptied all lof fluid over drivers side front wheel, I will repair that tommorow and bleed system ,no problem , however fluid has gone all over rim and stripped paint (expected) real concern is the tyres , they look ok ,will a couple of day exposure to brake fluid damage them ?

Thanks.

james ,

Thanks for your continued support , just one more question , I dont have anything to pinch rubber lines with to stop fluid leaking out , I was told if I open brake fuid reservoir and place a plastic bag over it and then screw lid back on tightly that it will create a vacuum similar to pinching a straw and reduce fluid loss , has anyone got any exprience of doing this ?

The bag idea works to a level, you may have already lost to much fluid though. Try a gravity bleed it works for me.

if wedge brake pedal down it will stop fluid loss

I'd not worry too much, on my old bus and when I first bought my Landy the wheels were constantly wet with the stuff and I always get it everywhere when I bleed them. It is worth cleaning off though as it gets flung everywhere.

I've replace both front RH wheel cylinders , only took 1 hr , luckily all nuts were loose enough , unfortunately as you probably know shoes have to come off because the spring is so tight when cylinder comes shoe comes off , one question I have is this , I've managed to get spring back on and shoes fitting on both calipers but shouldn't there be some pivot in the middle of do the springs at either end just keep them secure ?

Thanks

Ok , just had another look , as described in haynes there are 2 steady posts , 1 either side , it looks as if shoe just rests on them , there isn't a hole that lines up with them , is that right ? , also they are supposed to have bushes which they don't have , is that an issue ?, shoes seem secure , just want to make sure all is safe for family , never had problem with brakes only leaking cylinders
Thanks
