Guys, some help / ideas if you can. I've got a '99 Vogue SE 4.6 with the THOR engine. It has a gas conversion which seems to work well but the motor would never really rev out. Thought the gas system may have been too small for the engine and was starving it of fuel. Ran out of gas the other day so back on good old unleaded but the engine wont rev much past about 300 rpm, with a total loss of power. Had a look at state of air filter (clean), connections to air flow meter etc (ok), so was wondering if it may be electrical coil pack, leads ??? Has anyone had a similar experience.:confused:

I don't know if this has any relevence, but i once had an SDI 2600 that wouldn't go over 5,000 rpm even in neutral, it turned out that the last owner had timed the car 180 degrees out, so it still ran, quite well in fact, but not to its full earth shattering potential.
Whether this is possible on a much newer engine i don't know, but it might help.

Hi there,
Had the same thing on a 2000 4.0 hse. It would not go above 2500 revs, below that everything was fine, there were no alarm codes or messages. It was the airflow meter! 10 Min job to change.

I am an industrial control engineer (a mature one) and tested my old air flow meter once I had changed it. I could find nothing wrong with it using proffesional test gear, so I think the only way to do it is by replacing it with a known good one. A new meter costs about £100 form Land Rover and is very easy to fit.

Guys, just a quick update that may be helpful to others. I had a tip from a guy I work with to spray the sensing element with carb cleaner. After nearly drowning it and letting it dry off i took the car for a quick spin. The thing revs properly now, gas or petrol. At least this has confirmed the fault and I shall be getting a new unit before it plays up again. Thanks with all your help.

I was told the same thing or read about it, i forget, but there is a cleaner for electrical products that will do the job, i think the stuff is like a thin plus gas, that has a detergent in it too??
 
Latest update. - Picked up a replacement airflow meter (New) of Egay for £34 compared to the £109 +VAT at LR. The asthmatic mouse in his wheel thats been living under the bonnet has gone and been replaced with a fire breathing monster of a V8 well on petrol anyway. When running on gas I get a misfire / coughing at between 1750 and 2500 revs. If I put my foot down it pulls like a train. Is it possible the gas was set up to a faulty meter in which case it now needs resetting. Any ideas appreciated.

what sort of lpg systems on your car nigel , have you checked for any vacuum leaks as if the map sensor is getting a duff signal that would put your lpg system up the wall .
