Sorry to be a numpty on this one -

Was it only military Landy's that had their axles and driveshafts painted red, or did they all have this at some point?

What did/ did not get painted (U bolts and springs no?), and what was the point?

Was it originally covered in black waxoyl - so you can see where it's come off - or where it's damaged? or was it to spot those in trouble on the battlefield?

:D :D

I wasn't aware that they were, but I new the rear diffs were painted white so that at night whilst travelling in convoy without their main lights on they could follow each other safely with the aid of a small chassis mounted light. I think!

the white diffs are used with a convoy light shining on to them, sometimes its just a white circle on a metal plate if the diff is too far from the rear of the vehicle, trucks and stuff,
some regiments made up of gate and barrier operators paint the nuts cos they think it looks smart, others think that if they paint wheel nuts red then planks whit try to undo them. and other think that if they paint the drive flange nuts then planks wint undo them when thery're meant to being undoing wheel nuts.
don't fer get not all regiments have the same smarts as the REME done do
