Why so expensive, Mantec

Hi all.

Preparations are underway at a pace and U decided that to stop people
borrowing things out of the boot on our Afrtica trip I would fit rear window
guards. Anyway I watched e-bay for Defender 110 guards and none came up. So
I contacted Mantec. I was quoted £247 (UK) which seemed a lot but I know
they have a good reputation. With £11.50 for postage. About £260.

I thought just before I got the credit card out and shocked it I would phone
a local Metal Fabricators. I explained what I needed sizes etc. In the same
style as the mantec guards. The manager said "Well we can't do it to cheap
as it is a one off."

So I held my breath and asked how much, "Well all the guards would have to
be £75 in total which is very expensive." I was numb.

So it is booked in on Thursday at the local Metal Fabricators and they are
fitting them.

Now there is £200 pounds difference in price. Mantec seem to be charging an
awful lot.

Yours

Andy

Are they the same materials? Steel or Ally? Galvanised etc? Try and get
galved bolts fitted or something that won't leave rust streaks down the
paintwork too.

Mantec ones we have aren't galvanised. Need shotblasting and galv now
- they should have done that from the factory though.

75 quid is very reasonable, I doubt however that they're going to make
them fit quite as nicely as the mantec ones with nicely rounded edges
and so on.
