Who would you recommend for a new 88 galvanized Chassis

Dear All,

I went to the MOT station yesterday (19-03-2010) to see if my new SIII would pass.

I new the chassis needed work but after lifting it was obvious that it needed a lot of work and as I was going to change the chassis for a galvanized one before taking my SIII to the tropics (when I have finished
my Masters) I think that it would be cheaper and easier to do the job now than the repair job and chassis change later.

So the question is:

Who would you recommend as a good/best/favorite place to buy an 88 galvanized chassis?

and

What advice would you give as to treating it before fitting? (i.e. painting etc.)

Mine is Marslands. I think there is little to choose between the two. I etch primed and then gave 4 coats of Tetra Schutz. It don't look galvy anymore to the scrotes.

a] Richards are the best i'm always told

b] You need to use what is called a Mordant solution. It is mostly phosphoric acid. Well worth using on all prepared steel whether followed by etch primer or plain primer. Mordant is a clear liquid which when brushed on plain steel will turn it slightly blackish with whisps of whiteish... which indicates that it has been applied on an absolutely clean surface.

Most manufacturers produce it... here's an example

Im on the Marsland side..great customer service.

i beg to differ with that, i bought a series chassis from marsland, and to be honest it was fine, a couple of years later i purchased a defender chassis of them, i had put all the landy together, came to fit the doors, not a chance, hitting the tub one side, other side not even hitting the frame, miles out, tried everything, i took all the bodywork off, measured the chassis from corner to corner and it was 5/8 inch out of square:eek:, contacted marsland who said this was not possible, they sent a engineer out, after appox 2 hours of messing about he admited the chassis was twisted,

they offered to swap the chassis when i had stripped everything down, and came with a td5 chassis with 200tdi mounts on, after checking it was square, i questioned would all my bolt on bits fit they said yes, how wrong they where, none of them fitted, i spent approx £400 on new td5 bits,

after a letter to them explaining all the problems i had, they never had the decency to even reply, no compensation, nothing, look at the money i would have lost if i had to pay a garage to do the work??. needless to say im not reccomending marsland

Galvanized Chassis painted to hide the new gleaming bits.

Delighted with result. Cheque book devastated.
