Not sure if you guys in the UK can have radar detectors, but here in the US (well except Connecticut and Virginia) they are completely legal. Anyway, I want to hardwire it so it comes on when the ignition is in either position 2 or 3. The detector comes with it's own kit which makes it very simple. However, I AM having a hard time figuring out which wire to splice into for power. Most guys mount them right above the rear view mirror, and wire them up through the front overhead lighting unit, as that way you don't have to drop the headliner. A browse through RAVE and asking on another site have not narrowed it down. Maybe someone here has some advice? Please understand I can't comprehend a wiring diagram no matter how hard I try, nor can I figure out how to use the very complex volt meter I have:(

I have a radar detector- don't use it as alarms on everything.

I used radio ign feed with drop down fuse to 1 amp or what ever the plug in lighter had and ran it up pillar in car

Most cars have a permanent supply to the interior lights with the door switch providing the earth to turn the light on. The P38 interior lights are operated by door micro-switches and are controlled through the BECM.
Disturbing the BECM's functions is never a good idea, especially if you're not sure of your electrical abilities. To be safe you'd be better taking the power from the cigarette lighter supply and running a wire up the A pillar, across the roof to the interior light and then to the detector.
