hi guys

just had my 1999 1.8 petrol Freelander MOT and apart from couple of advisories passed ok.i have noticed though the radiator still remains freezing cold despite this it never overheats and am going to book it in for a radiator flush and coolant change .

the problem I have noticed is white/grey smoke from exhaust is this normal seems to last longer if cold outside. Car drives fine no sluggishness no signs of oil in coolant or other way around the garage didn't mention it just someone at work who said its burning oil ..how do I tell if its something more sinister had the HG done with the thermostat mod at 80.000 miles currently on 109.400.

its going to have full service at end month is this just a sing it needs a good service as I say other than this it drives like a dream

sorry if this has been discussed before unable to find anything on search

cheers mate what colour smoke do I need to be worried about as I say nothing was said at MOT and the garage are great used them for at least 6 years

not that you would notice check it weekly and not needed to top up since last time stays around middle dipstick when checked cold

From what you have said, I wouldn't worry to much. If she is not using oil or coolant and running fine. Just replaced the thermostat on mine cos I suspected it was stuck closed (cold rad and bottom hose). New one does not seem to open either or takes ages - must be the low temps we are seeing.

yea hopefully..i changed thermostat after we broke down and advised change it if rad still freezing then have it flushed to see if it helps as fan don't come on either but top up coolant weekly garage did the tests all came back fine said was prob just due to not going via radiator to keep cool so mite be down to evaporation so just ordered new expansion tank and cap they are fitting them for free when do radiator flush and coolant replacement garage seem to think its prob got air leak in system.

cheers hd3

I have noticed it more when the weather has been really cold and I check both water and oil every couple of days to ensure they are ok
