Hi have a 1990, 110 which I would like to smarten up a bit by giving it a paint job in the spring/summer.
I have read various threads on here some have hand painted their Defender, some have used K2 instead of Cellulose paint. I'm not looking to do a showroom job but just smarten it up. I have several small dings from going through the forest and very narrow tracks where the sides get scratched from the bushes etc. I have some pitting on the drivers and rear door. I will probably just paint over those. Could anyone explain the advantages and disadvantages of the various methods. I have a compressor and all the spray painting equipment which someone left me. I don't mind stripping it down and removing all the things like wheel arches, rad remove lights etc ready for painting. I think while I'm at it I will have a go at the inside also. I was thinking of spraying the outside and probably hand paint the inside. Any suggestions that might point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

I have used both cellulose and 2k paints,
And for me 2k outperformed cellulose by a long shot, Better coverage, Less chance of reaction with old paints ect...
Although that comes at a price, As 2k paint contains isocyanate's. So you're ment to wear an air fed mask. (Many don't, Me included)
As said I have used it before with out a mask and I'm not dead yet.

Google isocyanate and have a read up and make the decision, There are a few horror stories about but I thought #### it what's the worst that can happen.

Sprayed mine with tractor enamel, thin with thinners to your preferred consistency and whack it on.
Goes on loverly and thick:)

No seriously tho, having seen Aaron's paint job close up and realised just how good it was, I would defiantly agree with 2pk :)

:p you know what I mean. Least I'm still here, Infact most of the time I never even wore a mask, (Mainly due to forgetting) Yes you may come out coughing and wheezing a bit, But my take on these kind of things are that I really don't give a ####, And would use in again without a second thought!
Worth the risk in my book :)
 
If spray painting with 2k get a mask Only £20 ish

If you want a simple black, white or gray paint job just buy some 2k high build primer and 2k clear coat.
Flat primer down and clear coat on top you will be surprised at the out come.
