Greetings! Which is the best months for buying a new car or truck if
one has the time to wait? With thanks.

Most would say the end of the model year when the dealers are trying to
clear their lots for the new models....

but it also depends on where you are. For example, where I am in
Upstate NY, most dealers sales drop during the winter months. They'll do
more then to get you in and complete a sale.

Buying them when nobody else is tends to be the best tactic.
However this only applies if the manufacturer and dealers
agree that nobody is buying, so they might offer incentives
to move the iron.

If you intend to keep the vehicle, the trailing year closeouts
can be pretty good as long as you realize the vehicle is not
only "used" but a year old the instant you sign the papers
and it leaves the lot. On trucks this isn't such a big deal
as on cars.

The second or third week in December! It may sound odd but that is
going to be the best time to get one. I'm in auto sales myself and
traditionally once you hit December 1st the average dealership will
see about 30 people come on the lot at all. Everyone gets it in their
head that they have to hold up every dime for X-mas. if you are the
only one that has come on the lot in 3 days you can nearly name your
price.
