My thrust bearing has gone (or so the misses says!) on my Defender 200tdi and the chap at my local garage has agreed to fit it if I supply the parts. I figured that while I had a choice, I would look into getting a heavy duty clutch whilst it had to be changed. The obvious replacement is the borg and beck unit, but then I've seen others out there such as the Valeo, the EBC and the Britpart one.
Is there one that someone could recommend, if it costs a little more, but will last longer, then that would be ideal. I do a bit of green laning and intend to do some touring so its not going to get too much of a pounding.
Also, is it worth getting the release arm changed whilst I'm paying for the clutch to be done, and what about the spigot bearing, both of which come in some kits, but not others.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Cheers

Get the heavy duty one from paddocks, its called the 300tdi heavy duty clutch plate...

Do the release bearing, release arm and cover while your at it.

Yeah, whilst it's all apart, I may as well get all the bits fitted to save re-doing the whole thing for a £5 part in 6 months time. Humm, the paddock site is down at the moment, have to look tomorrow.

I'm doing a 200tdi clutch myself next week, got the borg and beck 3-piece kit. I intend to get the release arm too. But whats this bush thing? Also any other tips would be appriciated.

Cheers :D

Got it, part no 8566L - Spigot Bush - Series/2¼D/2¼P/2.5P/2.5D/TD/200/300Tdi/Td5. Good stuff Grunt. Thank you.

Well according to the haynes manual its as simple, running a tap down the bush in order to thread the bugger, get a bolt in and pull it out. It mentions another method where you find a wire of the length of the diameter of the bush, pack with grease and pull. Does that sound about right?

Dunno about the wire one, if yer get a piece of bar thats a snug fit in the bush, half fill the bush with grease then insert the bar an bray ten bells out of the other end of the bar the grease will force the bush out....Wear safety glasses cos the grease can squirt out an it always squirts into yer eyes.

It's been a long day... that's what the Haynes manual says! Thanks for your words of wisdom sir.
