I`m gonna fit an battery isolator switch with key for a little extra security.
I`ll be buying from ebay where they range from £4-5 + p&p up to £50. That`s quite a range!!
Some are described as `heavy duty`, although the pics or description don`t show any difference.
Anyone fitted one, and can point me in the right direction? I don`t wanna spend unnecessarily. Talk of 300amps for 30 seconds then 500 amps for 5 seconds means nothing to me, so please, just telling me what to get is the kindest way forward.
I know i`ll have to retune my radio every time, but is there a way around this??
Thanx in advance for any help. :)

Are you running any high draw accessories? like a winch. If so you will need a HD unit to be safe.

there is a way around the radio thing, pikey mentioned it once. something like, run a small wire around the isolator to keep the clock and stereo ticking over. best check that though.

Hey Griffdowg, thanx for that. I do run a front winch but as yet hasn`t been used, (its a bit untrustworthy ), although I do like pay and play days and have joined a local club so it may get active with them if I get into trials. If I do i`ll go for a split charge system anyway as back up.
I`ll put it to the guy helping me with it and see what we can sort. Thanx.

That's correct griff. It will need to be a fused bypass wire cos otherwise it'll glow if you forget to turn the isolator on before cranking the engine over.

12v 1 amp resettable trip - just pop it back in if you forget - rather than having to change a fuse or call the fire service

It wont take long to go through £10 of fuses though would it!

This is something I need to do. I only have an isolator inline to the winch.

I only went through around 5 or 6 fuses in the 18 months I had the isolator on my previous landy.

If the missus had driven it I woulda needed to keep an entire box of fuses handy.:p

It will be hidden or in a non obvious place, but you can`t get too extravagant with the routing `cos of the heavy battery cables which aren`t too pliable.
Anyone whose serious enough about having it away, will. Hopefully most will not be prepared to spend the time searching, or indeed have a spare isolator key with them.
I am making a hefty `fu** off` pedal claw, which I will highlight visually with a flourescent cable to the steering wheel to put off break- ins and ultimate theft. You can only do so much tho`

Stick it in the passenger footwell so it protrudes from the seat box. Then padlock the lid of the seatbox closed with a decent quality padlock.;)

you can get islotaor switches that use actual keys anorl.

yeah thinkin about it your limited to the area surrounding the passenger seat, maybe behind the passenger seat would be most hidden / least troubelsome to install?
