I'm going to swap my diffs back to range rover ones. Trouble is they neither have a filler plug so I was going to braise a plug into the back of the pan on the back of the rear diff.

How high up should it be? I'm sure its not super-critical but I do realise that the oil from the middle lubricates the ends, as it were so don't want it too low, but too high and it will keep ****ing out of the breather like it did when I use to fill it up by pouring it down the axle...

Cheers

By tube level he means the lowest point at which the 1/2 shaft housing connects to the diff housing.
Wouldn't it be easier to change pan for one that's already got a filler plug?.

Not without a welder. I thought I'd try using a MAPP torch to braise a plug in. But, sod it. I tried it out on some scrap and it was feckin useless. I've just ended up cocking a leg an pouring some juice down the axle for now. I've probably overfilled it a bit - about 2 litres but I need this thing running.

I think I will buy a pan with a filler in when I get back from France and weld it on as the current pan is looking a bit rusty under the heavy coat of underseal.

Ooh, now that looks far too high johnny, they said lowest point of tubes not top....

I think mine will have to wait until I get hold of a welder now. I could probably just poke my finger through the diff pan is so knackered on mine.

The front one's not much better. Some bell-end had fitted an over-size diff guard and let it full up with cack. Probably better off letnig a few rocks hit it than rot away plus I can turn left now! (Steeting arm was hitting it!)
