can anyone advice?

Firstly, Welcome:).

The title mention 2017 yet you say "older 110".
Many use this as a resource for parts numbers Lrcat

Welcome to the forum.
The group is divided into sections. the sections cover specific models as well as other interests.

Commonly people introduce themselves in the introductions forum ...
Just post a new thread and add some pictures if you can along with a full description of your 110.
Is it a 300tdi engine or a TD5 or a Ford Transit ?

Someone will have the information you are looking for.

This is my 1st. Land rover, all the time I was driven by Toyota landcruiser j150.
My defender model is 1983, but I'm trying to rebuild it from scratch.
Idea is to fit M57 6hp or 8hp drivetrain.

Maybe you should have kept the Land Cruiser! :D

It isn't a Defender, they weren't made until 1990.

Just a good old Land Rover One Ten. :)

Ok so there are many free manuals available online covering electrics and mechanics for that age.
If you are going to install that powertrain, I would imagine none of the LR (defender) or one ten electronic manuals are going to help in the slightest;).

Have you really looked into this conversion at all?

But I do wish you luck and it should be an interesting journey.

The one I have 83' will remain as is. I just need the V5. and keep the VIN cut out of it.
New build one is starting from brand new chassis and all the parts will be from latest model.
Yes I'm aware of how difficult is to complete similar project, but it wont be the first one :D

So not exactly legally an 83 in anyway as far as DVLA?

So you should be asking for different manuals then whats the donor?

J

There were many discussions online regarding keeping your VIN and using brand new chassis or body for Defenders.
So answer is yes and no. I remember reading Marsland chassis can hit your VIN from V5 provided.

Haven't found donor yet, would like to get 7 seat body. or do it panel after panel.

I had also heard that some would stamp VIN in new chassis which is always a good security thing.

But its the rest of it that would make it abit iffy;).
If you are doing it for you and not expecting to get any tax/MOT exempt status then fine:).

My one is already exempt , so no more MOT's. Its not for business purpose it's for private use and joy .
If you change everything on the vehicle, it will invalidate Historic Status and exemptions, and you should re-register it.
There is a points based system, and each component changed has a value in points.

Also, you can't upgrade everything to a "modern" one, as none have been built since 2016.
And changing everything on a 1983 One Ten to parts from a 2016 Puma is going to be very expensive, and a lot of work.
And I fail to see what you are going to gain from this, it would be easier to go out and buy a Puma if that is what you want.

I woulda agree with this. To keep the identity the chassis needs to be a like for like replacement, If you change engine/gearbox mount to fit a later drive train then you invalidate this and cannot keep the ID.

I would also question what benefit you will get. Fitting later body panels, the older ones are better quality, and there is no difference. The axles again little difference and certainly no benefit I am aware of. Bulkhead and dash is a personal preference thing, personally I prefer the older style layout, but if you want the new one that is not a huge amount of effort to swap over, that is the only piece of the body that is hugely different. The amount you will spend to do this surely you are better getting a puma donor and just putting it onto a galv chassis and bulkhead?

Thanks,

Most of the point make sense. Will have a think what route to take.
Many thanks for info.
Why not restore it as a 1983 One Ten?
You could put a slightly later engine in it, to improve the performance over the original 2286cc Petrol or Diesel engine.
That wouldn't invalidate Historic Registration, as it would just be changing a 4 cylinder Land Rover Engine for another 4 cylinder Land Rover engine.
And the resulting vehicle would have some heritage interest, because it is a very early One Ten, and be eligible for Historic Registration, free tax, and ULEZ exempt.
