Finally remove the complete dashboard, consoles etc to reveal the heater unit, remove from vehicle and, with much effort, separate the two halves to release the heater fan. It is completely fried and as this is an early Discovery. 1990, not quite so easy to identify best replacement. The original part number appears to be RTC 6693 and various suppliers are offering Britpart and other non-LR original parts, some of the feedback indicates that some of these may need modification to fit which seems a bit crazy if they are supposed to replicate the original.
Has anybody been through this process and which is the best supplier to use? It seems there are some suppliers who can provide genuine LR parts but these are huge price. As usual any advice would be much appreciated - photo below
