As some of you know I have my new Defender 300TDI 1994 with 107k on the clock. I have brought workshop manuals, parts cd's, engine filter kit, chassis stuff..waxoil (zinc primer, hammerite undercoat with added waxoil and the waxoil spray pack) bottom door channels to repair, windscreen rubber to replace, bits of bulkhead to sand down and spray, genreal bodywork tidying and spraying....

Thinking of it all in one go scares me, which is the preferred method of attack for a renovation? Shall I give the engine a big birthday with filter kit and a once over from the tips people gave me in last thread regarding turbo checks etc, then do the subframe...working up to panels, glass then interior?

Or is there a trade secret on approaching all of this?

Howdy,

I'm in the same boat, have had my 94 300tdi CSW a year, I kicked off with;

disks & calipers all round
Shocks
Master cylinder brakes
Servo
Door hinges
A-Frame Ball joint (a niiiiiiightmare!!!)
Tarted up bodyword and resprayed black (its what I had in the garage at the time)

Failed jobs;
Cambelt - bolt seized, two garages and me have failed to get it off (crank pulley bolt)
replacement of doors (only done rear due to cash) and they are all rotted
interior - too many mechanical things to sort!

Problems up and coming;
cambelt - definetly going to go!
Clutch
nasty clunk from transmission....
Windows seal on front (bulk head showing signs of rust)
Alpine seals all perished

I just did the stuff that kept it on the road. replacing all the brakes made a huge difference, so did the shocks and the A-frame BJ. One good thing about the landy, there's no shortage of things to fix/bleed over!

Good luck!
K
