Hi all, I have recently purchased a 02 Freelander TD4, would be intrested in knowing if this was a UK manufactured vehicle or overseas? - I'm guessing perhaps a bit of both. :(

Also, its an auto, but came with a manual for a manual version, can anyone suggest where I could obtain running instructions for the auto rather than having to purchase a replement manual...I know stingy, but I'm a Yorkshire girl and christmas is looming.:blabla:

Thanks.

if your a bit of a whizz on the old pc, get hold of the RAVE disks and the manuals are there amongst a load of other usefull stuff.

Very strange  my 2002 manual had info for both auto and manual.

So does my current 2004 manual.

Google this: TOPIx

This will take you to the all-knowing LandRover site where manuals for every LandRover ever made are available FREE. :D:D

You can even put in your chassis number and get a lot of info on your individual vehicle. :)

TD4 engine is a bmw unit

Auto gearbox is made by Jatco = japanease automatic transmission company

Most cars are made from parts from all around the world.

Oh my God Hippo -

Looking at your post I realise how much I misunderstood the OP - I thought the query was as to which country the LandRover factory which assembled the OPs vehicle was in.

I was thinking of Solihull for UK and the other plants in Spain, Brazil, Australia, S Africa where they put together the CKD jobs. :(

It never occurred to me the query was as to the origin of the individual components. ;)

This would make an interesting project - how many different countries produce the OE parts for a Freelander. Might just start a new thread on this!! :):)

By manufactured I assumed OP was asking for where parts were made, as opposed to thrown together, shorry assembled.

I would guess parts are made in over 50 countires easily. Thats counting the engine computer as 1 part, 1 country, rather than every component in the computer.

I would agree Hippo - 50 countries easily.

I don't think there is a vehicle on the road with all of the bits made in the one country. Not even in China, Korea or Ruskiland.

It's nothing new - my 1972 Rover P6 has bits made in Czechoslovakia - a country that doesn't even exist any more.

My 1982 BMW has Japanese motors in the mirrors. I remember that was in the German newspapers at the time - some of the old Teutonic types were outraged that the Free State of Bavaria was importing Japanisch car parts to be incorporated in their pure-blooded Munich machines.
