Where does it go?

Just got a refurb kit for my brake cylinders see below and I have no idea where the one on the far left goes. ( I have the drum drakes that have two cylinders per wheel.
The middle one goes around the piston in the cylinder and the far right is the dust cover on the end but the first one? Is it for another type of cylinder set up?

first one goes on the end of the piston open end facing the fluid

Think it's not used on my cylinder but only on dual push cylinder
