Hi all

New to this site and Land Rovers so excuse my ignorance. After spending an afternoon as a passenger in someone else's Defender, and thinking, "I want one!", have spent the last few weeks thinking "Why not?"

I'm due for a car change from a very sensible 3 door hatchback, and also due for a midlife crisis, so started off looking at Freelanders, but really feel like I want to go the whole hog and get a Defender 90 Station Wagon.

Can probably afford something around 5 years old. It would have to be my everyday vehicle and I would also want to get into some off roading and green laning when I'd got used to it a bit. I've booked myself onto an introductory off roading day to try it out for myself and, unless I'm completely rubbish at it, think that will just make the craving even stronger.

Any advice from those of you who might have jumped in at the deep end from a normal car? Also any suggestions of dealers in used 90's around Herefordshire as the local main dealer only seems to have about 2 in stock and they're a bit too new/expensive for me.

Oh yeah - also I'm female. Am I allowed to own one????

Hope someone can offer advise - I've now been brave enough to buy Land Rover Monthly but feel like I'm doing something slightly dodgy ....

Hiya Clueless, you would do well to talk to Pagan, she had never driven off road until about 6 weeks ago, and went straight from an MG ZR, and bought a 300 Tdi 90, and has already competed in two RTV trials, and done a fun day. She loves it, and does not regret it one bit, but i am sure she will tell you herself.

Ta both!

Will look out for Pagan then and keep on reading through this site as it's an eye opener!

Away now for a few days but will catch up with any other replies next weekend.

Always wondered what was in those brown paper bags ....! ;)

'Ow do Cluless ! - you do realise you'll have to change youe name when you're tearing round in yer Landy and partaking in yer offroading.
PigPen is right I was about to hit 40 and thought "bugger it" I want summat different so I went from my little lowered hot hatch to a Defender 90 300 Tdi and I haven't looked back. I've got loads to learn too but I'm jumped in at the deep end and I'm learning as I go. I bought my Landy from Rogers of Bedford, I went to a dealer as knowing nowt about 'em I felt a bit happier with a warranty chucked in. Mine's a 1997 model and had 112,000 miles on the clock! but when you're looking for your truck, don't let things like that worry you. Mine is my usual road car and I use it for offroading, if you have any questions, the guys on here are great, they'll talk you through things all the way and at a level you'll understand, feel free to PM me if you want any more info though - and finally - Good luck with the search and most of all - ENJOY !!:)

Just buy one. My 2 daughters love it!

Also any female owners have to pose naked next to the car and post the pics so we do an inspection.

Of the car that is.
