i got stuck in the snow recently:( but what was happening was drivers side front wheel was spinning and nothing had recent vcu and rear diff change is this normal i am very confused.com:confused:

TIA

Well if the wheels spinng you were gving it too much accelarator. The fact the rear wheels werent spinning would be of concern possibly

depends on who/where the ird came from. still got prop shaft? its normal to spin and then via the drive train the rears kick in. hippo put an excellent video on here showing his in snow up a hill.

This wheel spin you describe is definitely NOT normal.

If any one wheel starts to spin the TC will slow it down and power will be transfered to whichever other wheel or wheels have grip.

The VCU maintains balance between front and rear.

Thats a quick 'thumb-nail' description and the purists may nit-pick - but basically all that clever stuff happens so quickly and automatically that most folks wouldn't be aware of any spinning at all.

You may well have been sold an IRD or VCU that is suspect.

All depends if he's got TC aswel if your a cheap skate like me u won't have TC, HDC or blinking A/C lol

I spent all day trying to get stuck in the snow iv had all 4 wheels spinning like a well organised ballet.
I've done doughnuts galore and followed my mates Td5 all day. Hippo did not miss a beat it is easy to get all 4 wheels spinning in the snow just give it some right foot.
And the TC works great sorting out spinning wheels

I was in carpark full of ice be4 and there where loads of chavs doing handbrake turns so I thought I would join in and see if I could get a 4 wheel drift on the go! Well........ I was drifting around like I was on dancing on ice lol my freelander had good control on the ice aswel :)

Your description works perfectly well for me SV. I've got my knickers in a twist on another thread trying to understand how a TD5 works - I'm being helped!!:)

Are you sure the rear wheels weren't spinning as well?

Both my FLs have had TC so I don't know how the fronts would act without it, but I've been in a situation where I was parked with the tailgate against a fence on an icy slope, and all 4 wheels spun when I tried to move.

Apart from that one incident I've always managed to get some traction when not in mondo mode.
