Wheels - what fits?

Hi All,

I've spend ages searching t'internet but still don't have a definite answer...

Will 2010 Defender 90 wheels fit a 1973 SWB series III?

And will 235/85R16 tyres cause any issues? They should be roughly the same size as the 7.50R16's it's currently wearing so other than adjusting the steering lock to account for the wider tyres I should be sound?

The problems I found online relate to fitting 235's to older (thinner) wheels but as I'm buying a complete set this shouldn't be an issue...

After getting a quote from my local Kwik**** for 2 tyres I've decided to buy a whole new set of wheels and tyres for the same price!

Any help is much appreciated!

Cheers :)

Cool thanks, will any land rover wheels fit?

I notice on Paddocks they list wheel and tyre sets for "Defender with Disc brakes" but nothing for Series/90/110/older Defenders which made me query the fit.

Are you fitting the alloys to this poor series?

I dont think all land rover wheels fit, I seem to remember seeing that some wheels need spacers or wheel stud/ nut adapters made to fit serieseseses

No no no! Steel wheels only!

I've currently got what look like wolf wheels but plan on fitting the original looking Defender steel wheels - definitley not alloys! Then painting them limestone to match :)

Also, from what I understand the newer Defender steel wheels will fit tubeless tyres which if correct will be an added bonus!

Need pictures when you get them on:)

Piccies to come when it's light :D

Also I know how much you all like your restoration threads so I'll be starting one of my own next year :D

Not the best angle to show the wheels but here's what she looks like currently:

Gonna fit spinning hub caps and paint go faster stripes down the bonnet :bolt:

Before I'm banned for life - that's a joke, she's going bronze green with limestone roof and wheels :)

Those look like wolf wheels in the photo. Series wheels have big rivets that help hold the rim part to the centre. There should be a part number hidden under the dirt somewhere on the wheel - just google it to check.

Hi zeaphod - thanks, here's a closeup of one of the cleaner wheels:

I've tried googling the numbers but didn't find anything to do with Wolf, however, the 61/2Jx16 bit (upside down) suggests the wheels are 6.5 inches wide so I guess I can fit 235's to these :D win!

Oh, and for those that are interested here's one of the worse wheels mid-way through cleanup:

Going to cut that tire off (tread is knackered) and paint it limestone, then work my way through the other 3 :D

Hi again, I called a 4x4 tyre specialist earlier and was told that 235/85 is the modern equivalent of a 7.50 tyre, but that they won't fit series rims as they're too thin - not a problem for me though right as I have 6.5" rims?

Am I right in thinking that the 235 part of the tyre size means the tread will be 235mm wide? And the 85 means the wall will be 85% of 235mm tall (199.75mm)?

Just been out with a tape measure and despite being 7.50's my current tyres are roughly 6"-6.5" high and wide... 235/85's will be bloomin massive?!

Does anyone have a pics of their series 88 wearing 235/85's?

Cheers
