Wheel spacers? Are they worth it?

I'd like to improve the rather poor turning circle on my Series 2a. Will a set of wheel spacers make much of a difference? Or should I not bother? At the moment it's bloody awful especially when I end up going over a kerb because I've misjudged it yet again...

You'll find lots of threads about wheel spacers on here if you do a search. The comments seem to be the same of all models, so don't limit yourself to the Series section.
General opinion seems to be that they will put excessive load on your wheel bearings, but there seem to be a number of other issues, so read carefully before making a decision
Are your lock stops adjusted correctly? Is the problem both ways or only one way, uneven steering is very common on a Series vehicle.

My apologies I should have run a search first. One thing I was concerned about was whether spacers would place too much strain on axle parts... somewhere along the line.

The stops are, as far as I am aware (but I should measure them properly) ok. It is the same on both sides for full lock either way. I can probably get use to it but it's awkward going form a power sterring Astra Estate then firing the Landy up

Bloody more fun to drive though.

I'm wandering if you have 750 - 16 tyres on SWB wheels. If you do then it's possible that the stops have been adjusted so that the tyres don't scrub the chassis on full lock. The LWB wheels have more offset.

Ah, now you have me stumped here... I'm honestly not sure. How would I go about finding about? I'm assuming I'd need to measure the depth of the 'dish' (for want of a better word) in the wheel itself.

The Landy is out of bounds for a week or so now anyway

I've pulled a bloody muscle in my right arm. I don't think wrestling with a none power steering 2a will do the recovery much good...

Looking at the outer side of the wheel, the inner cylindrical surface next to the valve hole is about 1" deep on a SWB rim and about 2" deep on a LWB rim. I hope that makes some sense. The aftermarket Weller 8 spoke wheels have even more offset than the LWB rims.

No need to go to the gym if you drive an old Land-Rover eh
