Hello All, I have had my 1991 Defender 90 for about 2 years now. Turning plenty of wrenches but still enjoying it. I shipped her from Wales to Florida and at first I wasn't digging the stock "pizza cutter" tires and rims (steel stock rims stamped 5 1/2 J x 16) Tires are Michelin 7.50R x 16. The skinny tires have grown on me and they have very few miles on them. Do they make a decent looking aftermarket rim in black that these tires will fit on? Anything available in the states is limited. Will a 7" rim even work with these tires? Thank you for any input!
 
What does "Turning plenty or wrenches' mean ?

The std 5.5F16 wheels are pretty cheap/common over here. EBay #234246501170 for example.
Ship them over, get them blasted and powder coated - Robert is your fathers brother.

Sorry for the confusion on my question, let me clarify: I have the steel rims that are in good shape. I am looking for suggestions on a good looking alloy wheel in black, that will work with my existing tires (whoops, i mean "tyres " i dont want that to be confused with a rubber or prophylactic). If someone could suggest a brand and model number along with a photo, that would be fantastic! Thanks again and we are still trying to learn the English language over here.

Atlantic British has them. If you own a Land Rover here in the States, they are the go to for parts, or bits, as our mates in the UK call them.
 
Alloy wheels don't fit on a 1991 D90, well they do, but, the tyres will hit the radius arms (hockey sticks) unless you increase the turning circle (a lot) by adjusting the stops or fit spacers to get them to sit further away from the hubs.
Stay with steel. Alloys didn't come in until TD5's ....
 
I had a 1996, 90 station wagon for work that came with alloys from the factory.
edit to say it was a 300tdi

When did the Defenders (200/300tdi) come as standard with Alloys ? And would these 'Alloy Wheels" be suitable for the 1991 D90 ?
I thought this wasn't until the TD5 and they only fit correctly to the deep hub which wasn't standard until after 1996 and they are 7" wide so not suited at all to the 5.5" (skinny) fitment tyres the OP wants.

Please educate me @neilly - every day is a learning day with Defenders :)

Talk about getting shirty, I just questioned your first respnse as it was a flat statement that they did not have alloys and then you contradicted yourself.....FFS get a life and do your own research.

Alloys were option on 300tdi (Freestyle were factory, Firestyle were aftermarket)
200tdi and earlier had drum rear axles so later retrofit Factory Alloys fouled the centre spigot - if they did seat properly the centre badge of the alloy popped out. The offset was a bit rubbish as well, made worse when 265/75/16 were on meaning the lock stops had to be adjusted = turning circle of a barge.

Boosts were an option from TD5 onwards.

You indicated you knew better (with your "Is that right" post) whilst at the same time not really answering the OP's question or providing any evidence that what I had said was wong (that alloys came much later and didn't fit on a 91 without rubbing etc).
@Galladog said he'd got a 96 with factory alloys so i'm definately wrong that alloys only came with TD5's as they were later (1998).

I thought you were being helpful and would be providing answers and putting me straight - obviously not
I thought you may have provided a clear answer to the OP - clearly not
