Hi im new on here. I really want to get a L322 probably a 02/03 plated 4.4 v8 auto. Ive read so many stories on how bad they are unreliable, etc etc, whats the real truth, are there just a few loud critics or are they worse than a p38. All your opinions please.

There is a place to introduce yourself, then go post in the Range rover section or do a search, in particular look at posts by Saint.V8 and rs2000custom.
The L322 is complex and fraught with problems. It's harder and much more costly to fix than a P38. Interior quality is poor and the suspension bushes and gearboxes are made of cheese.
 
The thing that drove home how much better it is to have a p38 was not only the fact I can fix everything on it maybe with help from a fault reader or some of the guys on here but also the cost of doing it like Datatek says it's peanuts compared to say a l322. I walked passed a brand new RR this afternoon and the tax alone is nearly £900! For that you could have a whole new engine and gear box if your p38 went pop!
 
If modern Land Rover vehicles were really as bad as people like to say, why are they able to sell all than they can make, have a waiting list, and have done for some years?
Some people will have problems, but that applies to all makes.
 
To me the P38 seems like it was an earnest attempt at updating & improving the original RR but subsequent models were devised from more of a 'how can we make these for less but sell them for more' standpoint. Styling is of course subjective (I actually quite like the 405) but the RR's build quality and rust resistance does appear to have peaked with the P38.. so far..

PCH , nobody owns them new, they just rent them for 3 years while they're under warranty , most by businesses as a tax dodge

It's how most new cars are run these days, long term rental
 
simple really if you cant afford to maintain it yourself or pay someone else to don't get a 322.theres always someone down the road or in the pub that can fix a 38.remember anything is fixable if you have enough paper with the queens head on it in your pocket.

JLR don't give a sh#t after the warranty expires and after 5 years or so they don't even want to look at them:mad:
 
+1 prob because they are built by robots & humans cant fix em(even l/r imo):D

I would agree with that. Worrying really. If the "Experts" can't fix them holds little chance for us home DIYers. For example will we be crawling about under a D4 in the next 10 years? I highly dout it...
 
Will we be allowed to crawl under our own cars in 10 years time? Or will owner repairs be banned by then?

And I know that Ive not got a degree in fixing stuff but id trust an engine rebuild or any repair for that matter that I did myself whilst in a dark room with a blindfold on with my hands tied. Over the work of some of these FITTERS out there. mentioning no names KwikFuk cough cough....
