WHat's the easiest way to remove the engine from a Disco 1?

With gearbox attached, separating on the floor / bench, or splitting them in situ, and taking the engine out by itself?

I do intend to remove the g/ box and trans. box from mine, as it's as rotten as british politics.
 
If the shell is going to be scrapped cut the front slam panel out with a 9" grinder and remove the engine, box and transfer out as one. The whole unit balances quite nicely on the rear engine lift ring.
