Hi I'm wanting some advice on what trailer to get for a up coming camping trip. I would love to have a sankey trailer but finding them up here in the north east is like finding penguin teeth. So have to look for something else. I have a budget of around £200 for one so any advice would be grateful cheers

Ive looked fella lol even asked a mate in the army to obtain one for me lol with no luck. All the sankey trailers are down south and none up in the north east lol

Fleabay's your best bet. I found one locally which fits my 6 man tent and a week's worth of crap for eating, fishing and amusing the kids and only cost £100.

I think that £200 won't get you much of a trailer. With a Disco it really doesn't matter what sort of trailer you get, it'll pull 'em. I would agree that your best bet is to scan Ebay, or your local papers for anything.

I just saw a sankey on a surplus site the other day it was £275 but looked cracking, cant remember the site though and it was on my work pc so no history. I’m not actually much help am I?

depends what you want it for? im selling one on ebay at the moment, needs a patch of welding and a valve as tyre goes down after a day or so, £100 takes it away, its a 6x4 and a foot and a half deep, on indespension units

Just a quick thought but over here in France, your car insurance (as std) dictates what max weight of trailer you can pull.

The default max weight trailer is 500kgs. Any trailer above that has it's own reg doc. and must be added to your cars' insurance.

So you might like to just cast an eye over your insurance docs to see if there is anything stipulated there.

this applies only to french cars, uk cars can pull up to the manufactures specs in france as long as the driver holds the correct license your insurance will cover you by standard as in the uk there is no need for separate trailer insurance but worthwhile checking

Providing your license cover this, post 1997 (cant remember exact date) licenses will need to take another test to carry a trailer over 750KG, post 2008 (really not sure on this one) need a license for any trailer although I may be lieing about that last bit, just something I seem to have heard, the post 1997 is correct tho...

not really for a new driver the max weight of both car and trailer must be less than 3500KG but the car must weigh more than the trailer
ie; car 2000KG trailer 1500kg these weights are the gross weights not the kerb

gross for the disco is 2700ish so 800Kg for trailer before 1997 you can drive 7.5 max vehicle with 750KG trailer

Update on the trailer. Thanks for all the advise but managed to get hold a sankey trailer off a mod range warden who bought it but then found out it won't fit on his focus lol so after a bit of haggling I got him down to £100 lol and even got the army hitch so happy days. Just have to prep and paint the same colour of my disco.
