Hi all so sold my series 2a and in the process of selling my td5 -110 due to house move

need an old landrover in my life and viewing a disco 1 jap import 300tdi auto tomorrow

any input on what I should look for ? I no my landrovers but Value the knowledge of the forum

boot floor
Front arches
Chassis / sills etc

not fussed about easily quickly fixed things but what can I can quickly view rot wise to buy or walk away

Wot you said.........plus boot floor.
But the whole point of a jap import is that you are unlikely to have the rust issues.
Apart from that the one's you prolly already know about, original radio not tuneable to Brit frequencies, and the mileometer, kilometer things.
Why an auto?
I'd rather have a manual one, but then it is just a matter of taste, and what is out there.
 
Cheers mate it’ll only be used local I had a tdi auto years back but kind of liked it slow but liked it , yea I’m hoping as jap import it will still have some metal left , it is local too which gives me the chance to view then think on it , ‘it’s priced at 1200 but should have a bit of lee way

Sounds like it isn't fresh from the land of the rising sun!
1200£ sounds dead cheap, if there is still a lot of metal left, I'd go for it, when I think about what we paid for our Annivesary manual 300tdi in about 2004! We had to take out a loan.:eek::eek::eek:
 
I had a 300TDi auto. We proved that over about 25 feet a mate at work was faster running than i was gunning it!
It was SO slow pulling out of junctions i used to aim at the back of the car passing when pulling out into traffic. The only other moan i had was how it didn't slip into top gear until about 55mph, which considering the majority of my commute was 50mph speed limit meant i had to speed just a little for the sake of the planet!

It was SO slow pulling out of junctions i used to aim at the back of the car passing when pulling out into traffic. The only other moan i had was how it didn't slip into top gear until about 55mph, which considering the majority of my commute was 50mph speed limit meant i had to speed just a little for the sake of the planet!
I couldn’t believe the lack of get up and go speed when I was trying to enter some of the London roundabouts when you only have seconds and than soon having to change into 2nd, I had a manual Tdi as a courtesy car when my disco was in for service, and the auto was no better other that it selects the gear.
No problems when I had a TD5 auto as a demo car a few times.

Don't wish for the auto to lock-up at a lower speed, my RR did at around 45mph, but when I had the opportunity to press on the low speed and engine rpm the RR it couldn’t, but most times I simply moved the select out of D and then its peddle to the metal.
The tip is to drive up the 55mph and then let the vehicle slow down to 50 and lock-up will still remain engaged and remain with in the 50mph speed limit.

I've been driving since 1982 and in that time i've owned 3 automatics. The first a Daimler 250 V8 nicknamed Chugga-Boom by my mates after the car driven by The Anthill Mob in Wacky Racers. Then a Jaguar S-Type 3.8. Both of those cars i loved. (WISH I STILL HAD THEM!) Then a D1 300TDi auto which i hated.
I can't see me ever having another auto! Well, not unless something falls off me or stops working so i can no longer change gear for myself...

1/ fit a high performance exhaust, that'll get it over the pull away problem you mentioned
2/ my TD5 is the same and will not slip into high until 55 mph which in France is a fecking pain now so many A and B roads are limited to 80 kph.
