Hi all.

I'm in the process of choosing an old Disco but I'm undecided on a 200tdi or 300tdi. I need it as a work-horse over in France, and to tow a caravan from UK to live in over there for a while - I'm hoping the earlier vehicles wil be easier to fix when/if they go wrong?

Is the earlier 200tdi engine a good option?

Is there any truth that the automatic gearbox gives a better fuel economy than the manual? Seems a bit odd to me!

Hi FrogFart, welcome to the forum.

I have a 200Tdi Discovery on a J-plate and the engine is quite easy to work on. They need an oil change about every 6 months or 5000 miles but apart from that it looks after itself. Everyone I speak to says that the 200Tdi a more basic engine so less to go wrong.

Paste a copy of this thread in the Discovery section for more direct feedback.
