What size tyre is best

Hi guys
looking at buying a set of insa turbo sahara's for the 2a swb not now but when we get towards the end of the rebuild and just thought I would ask what is the best size to go for 750R16 or 235/70R16 and why

You could go for 235/85s but otherwise I'd go with 750's over 235/70s if your gearing is standard for the slightly longer legs.

Its fitted with a tdi and Def diffs std gearbox

Ok cheers bb was going to go for cooper st's but they are expensive so mite go for sahara turbo's Instead

My favourite mud biased tread pattern, decent on road manners for how well they do in the durty stuff

Just thought I'd share my experience. I have the same setup Disco 200tdi, 3.54 diffs standard series3 gear/transfer box. I moved from 205s to 7.50s when I did the conversion and found that for slower speed driving, especially at 30mph I was stuck between 3rd and 4th gear, the former being to low and the latter too high to sit comfortably. In the end I went back to the 205s to make it easier to drive round town.

However if you do lots of motorway miles then 7.50s are probably the better option. Luckily I have an overdrive to compensate for the smaller tyres, but even on without it and 205s 50mph is comfortable. Its only when you get up to 60 you start to want the higher gearing

I think my next set may well be 235s, but a slightly lower aspect ratio to get something in between.

Yeah I don't intend doing any off roading with this one as I want to focus on sea fishing more and travelling all over the place every now and then fishing which sometime involves driving down dirt tracks so want something that will do both.

My experience with using just road bias tyres is that they tend to hold the vehicle back aswell as wasting fuel where as part road and dirt tyres they make the vehicle free'er and not wasting fuel.

As regards gearing in town work in my old S2a 200tdi with std diffs 750 tyres and an Ashcroft HRTB I had an o/d aswell which made it better mainly in 3rd with and without o/d so I will just have to see as with this one it will have a std g/box 200tdi and Def diffs and plan at some point to fit an o/d all being well

I run Michelin Latitude Cross in a 7.50, its more of a road bias with some modest off road abilities, mine were takeoffs from a Defender. Looking at the EU labeling a road bias tyre will nearly always roll and grip better on the road, quieter as well.
