Driving along as you do and the was a bit of a clunk and I saw something skittle along the road in my side view mirror.

Walked back and found this (see pic). It felt like something had fallen off the landy but I checked everything over and I can’t see anything obvious. Also I don’t recognise where this kind of stud would have come from? The only thing I can think of that’s similar is the exhaust manifold studs but they are all still there?? Any ideas??

It does not look like it has been subjected to any heat and it still has oil residue on it so dont think it is from exhaust manifold.

Some bell housing studs are very difficult to see. You might need to have a feel about in some of the darker places.
I'm not sure TBH, but are manifold nuts not flanged?

Thanks guys.

It’s a thinker. Could well have just been on the road and it flew up. I’ll check the places suggested.

I’m currently in the outer Hebrides so keen to nip any issues in the bud. Saying that I do have full AA tow home insurance and it would save on the diesel.

+1 manifold

Another vote for the exhaust manifold stud. Having done my manifold gasket last night it looks the same as the two studs in the centre on the upper side of the exhaust manifold. They are difficult to see with the intake manifold in place so may need a feel around to check.

Not on mine they aren't but they do have the single rounded side of the nut as seen seen in the picture.

Just going from memory and mine is old :( and a bit worn :( and tattered around the edges :(

Well still no closer to finding the culprit. Maybe it was already on the road but did look and feel like it came off the vehicle.

Either way I made it back from the western isles without issue.

The bolt will be relocated to the aforementioned ‘box’
