I'm not really up on the older diesel engines such as my TD5 Disco 2 - have had Merc diesels etc which are much more refined but I do like my TD5....however... in the morning, when the engine is cold, as soon as you tickle the throttle it sounds like what I can only describe as a crackle.
On a petrol engine I might have through it was timing chain or maybe piston slap - but does anyone else hear this on a cold engine and maybe know what it is?
I'll try and record it if it's not obvious.
When the engine warms up I don't really hear it - just for the first 2-3 minutes of running, when pulling out of junctions etc.
