A while ago I was considering getting a series IIa as a restoration project. It would be my first (appart from a mini I helped my Dad with donkies years ago) and so I am now thinking this will be more than I bargained for. I have not yet parted with cash for it and so can still back out.

 What do you think?

 Pics to follow

I was thinking of selling or getting rid of the roof and going canvas or not at all. Perhaps even leave off the door tops?

yeah the chassis is the big dilema. the landy is currently at a farm near the town i am from in hertfordshire; the question for me is: do I buy the chassis in the UK and ship it, alomg with the landy or do I ask my father nicely if i can dump the whole lot on his front yard and work on it when i pop over every now and again!

well its the best vehicle to start on lol, they don't get much simpler, finding a chassis may be a bit more difficult for you than someone in the uk as we have all the major chassis manufacturers here, might be worth giving richards chassis a try Richards Chassis Land Rover chassis manufacturer, LandRover
and Land Rover Chassis Replacements from Marsland Chassis
it may cost a bit to get them shipped tho

i have seen worse looking motors restored tho

 Nice link, Thanks for that

i reckon that's about £600 too much,no way is that worth £650.
i got my s3 109v8 for nothing although i've got to give him £100 if i'm happy with it once it's done.

thats too much, i paid £600 for my 109" s3 with a years mot 6month tax, a roof rack and a part built beaver tail trailer

aaah I see. Hmmm well that changes everything. A: I want a reasonable project but really what I want is a nice old IIa, not a **** take!

Right so shopping around or getting them to seriously drop the price is in order
