Freelander 1 what does this do and why the hole ?

I have a hole on the right hand side of my air box at the bottom should it be there ? it doesn't suck air in if anything air comes out if that makes sense and at the side of that is a plastic "tube" very technical I know :D could you please tell me what is it? I think it is something to do with the vacuum side of things and yesterday I noticed the small bradded hose at the top

The hole is normal, no idea why it's there, the plastic tube thingy is your vac reservoir. Brakes, egr and turbo all get their vacuum from it. It's a good idea to replace all your vac hoses as it's common for them to fail especially at the egr, one of the hoses that feeds the egr rubs on sharp stuff around it.

The hole in the air box is to allow water out, should it get in there.

The "tube" is as Ali said. ;)
