What can you tell me about the 4203?

I have bought one from ebay to install in my Series3. Noticed 2 probs. Minor one - It doesn't appear to have a heater take-off? Secondly my S3 has been fitted with power steering and i can't see where to fix the pump on the 4203 - any ideas?

will i need 2 batteries for starting it?

does it have heaters?

how do you stop the engine?

Hi Mate I also have just got a perkins 4203 and only just got it started. As for the 2 batterys NO. Mine started with just one.

I have taken some photos for you and placed arrows on for your info.
There is a leaver in the injector pump oposite to the throttle leaver which is to stop it. When it is pulled back towards the back of the engine it is in the stop position. When forwards towards the fan it is possible to start.

There is a pre heater on my engine which is on the inlet manifold. Its supposed to drip diesel onto a wire eliment when its supplied with a 12Volt charge. My engine would not start without this connected it did cough and splutter but would not start without. All you need to do is buy a push switch and mount it on your dash. Wire a 12 volt + feed to the push switch and the other wire to the pre heater. Make sure you get a high ampage switch to do this. When wired. Push the switch for 2 seconds keep it pressed and then at the same time turn the key. Keep your finger on the switch as its making the element glow and fuel is dripping onto it which is supposed to make a small fire in the manifold which is then sucked into the cranking engine. It worked for my engine which has not been started or turned a cog since 2 years. Have a look at the photos for a better idea.....

Hi, I have a 4203 in a forklift, the best way of starting on a cold morning is to turn the engine over first for a while, ( to send fuel to the heater ) then operate the heater plug for 20 secs. on the inlet manifold and then start the engine, works every time.
