What is the best brand of oil to use for the running gear, i know the spec, but does the brand name make the oil any better i.e additives etc in the oil

Hi i allways use millers oil,they are a old company been making oil for a long time.If you need any support phone there tec guys and they are realy helpfull.

It depends on what you want to pay for what result you want and the conditions you are going to operate in . If you are going to be pushing limits with regard to power, loading, heat etc then Redline synthetic, I have used for years with excellent results . Still on original drivetrain components inc bearings. Usual disclaimers.
p.s. not cheap to buy but depends how you rate what you save longterm JMHO

That is what i'm trying to get my head around, along as its got for example 15/40, can i put any brand in cheap or expensive and can it be from mineral to semi-synthetic to synthetic. i.e my choose. I fully understand that some engines say mineral, but can i upgrade it from semi to fully synthetic.
aslong as the numbers match up i.e 15/40 in this example.The answer is basically Yes , as long as the spec on the oil exceeds the spec in the owners handbook etc you are ok .
If you do regular oil and filter vchanges then unless you are working the engine very hard , hot climate etc then going to full synthetic is really not justified due to cost, but with transmissions , especially the ''marginal'' nature of longevity of some in land rover products then full synthetic is probably a good move esp in hard and hot catgory of use. I mentioned Redline as I have used them , and they are oil of choice for a lot of racing users etc. Most suppliers are based at racing circuits eg Silverstone. They are US co and have a website showing the extensive range . HTSH
