I have a 1987 landy 2.5 diesel 90, its usually a good starter with a 62A battery but i think its on the limit of not being quite good enough.
I dont tend to use the cab heater however when i do the volt meter on the dash goes down a little..from 3 quarters to half. I recently couldnt start the landy early morning after using the heater the night before on a 50 mile trip, i charged the battery and it fired up 1st time, great!

Now to the point of this...is a 62 Amp battery good enough? as i say the landy normally fires up with 30 secs pre-warm.

if it isnt, what Amp should i buy and maybe more importantly what CCA, cold cranking ampage, is best?

And does the heater probably have a bad earth if its draining a little power?

Your battery sounds a bit small.

I have a VARTA 60038 - which is over 100Ah.

Prior to that I had a "Type 643" - which was a 95Ah battery.

Also, check the output voltage on your alternator with a volt meter. It could be that the regulator's giving notice.

agree with Eben - check the alternator ouput - this should cover all the power needs of the electrical components once the engine is running - there should be no need to drive without the heater on !!!!

On my TD5 I have just replaced the batery for an Optima one - the original factory fitted battery was in the region of 100amp hours, but the new battery is much less than this as the integral battery design is different to standard and has superior CCA - I've had no problems with starting since fitting it, and it gets well below freezing quite often up here in Scotland !!!:)
